Gearing Up for This Year’s Tourneys

Our Colorado Jiu Jitsu community offers many congratulations to those who are participating in the 2014 SJJIF Worlds Tournaments this year! This is always an exciting time to be a part of the worldwide Brazilian Jiu Jitsu family. The Kids tournament was on November 9th, while the Juvenile and Adult tourney was the weekend of November 22nd and 23rd. The lists are up, and the competitors are at the height of their preparation.

The Sport Jiu Jitsu International Federation was founded in 2010 and has been hosting these tournaments since its inception, aiming to create competitions through an unbiased organization that judges based on styles familiar to all trained Jiu Jitsu competitors, with the overarching goal being to make Jiu Jitsu an Olympic sport.

Scoring is based on which competitor uses the superior technique and positioning to neutralize their opponent. Matches are not decided by a referee, but are based specifically on the total accumulated number of points received by each competitor.

Jiu Jitsu is a powerful tool for transforming the lives of children and adults alike, and the hard work and training performed in class can pay off come tournament time. We wish the best of luck to the competitors, and look forward to celebrating with this year’s champions!
