Program Updates:

Garett Irons, KFIT Head Coach

KFit classes are well underway! Come be apart of the energy!! Katharo Fit is our fitness program that focuses on functional fitness and mobility. Expanding your mobility ensures the best movement possible on the mats. If Olympic lifting is what you desire, your workouts can be geared toward building muscle and strength through weights and HIIT training. Please respond back to this email if you are interested in getting started or even having a free one-on-one with Coach Garett.

Coach Derek Merica, KFIT Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor

Coach Derek brings a unique flavor to Katharo’s KFIT program. He is not only one of the funniest people you will ever meet, but he is also someone who is passionate about helping people. His promise comes through being a personal trainer and fitness instructor so that he can help people achieve a healthy lifestyle that positively impacts other areas of their lives. Additionally, Derek has been training Jiu-Jitsu for 5 years and is currently training for the Leadville Half early this summer.

New Coaches & Instructors:

Coach Jeremy Hastings

Some of you may know Jeremy from his killer knee bars. Some of you may know him as the resident medal hog. And some us know him for his Jenifer Hordinski copy-cat hair style. IF you don’t know Jeremy, then get to know him as the Competition Coach. Jeremy will be the point person when it comes to organizing Katharo’s competition team. Coach Jeremy is available to answer any competition questions you may have. If you have questions about competing for the first time, competition diet, getting in the right classes for competition, Jeremy can answer them for you along with Professor Steve, Professor Jason, Professor Scott, and Professor Lee.

John Perez has been training Jiu-Jitsu for over four years. He will be teaching the Drill Class on Sundays from 330-430 pm. Here is what you can expect. “I believe drilling is one of the most important things you can do to improve your Jiu-Jitsu. Students can expect to drill basic submissions and fundamental transitions with the goal of building muscle memory through repetition.

“We will combine these transitional drills to create ‘chains.’ Drilling Chains is a great way to learn the movement in between each move which is often overlooked.

I am looking forward to helping you drill these techniques till they become automatic.” -Coach John

Please welcome Sharicka Long- O’Neil to the Katharo family. Coach Sharicka comes to Katharo with an extensive competition background and is also a 3x IBJJF World Champion.

Sharicka is dedicated to rallying and motivating competition teams as well as teaching. When you don’t see her training she will be coaching kids classes during the week! It is extrememly exciting to have another woman on the mat teaching and inspiring kids as well as adults.
Welcome to the team my friend!
